Where to Stay on a First Trip Around Argolis

Updated: April 27, 2026

Most first trips go more smoothly when you pick one base with a clear purpose instead of moving every night.

Choose Nafplio if evenings matter most

Nafplio is the strongest base if you want the old town atmosphere, a walkable dinner plan and easy short outings. It gives the trip a clearer center, especially if you only have a few days.

  • Best for first-time visitors who want a polished town base.
  • Easiest for combining port, old town and Palamidi without planning friction.
  • Better for couples or short stays where evenings are part of the trip, not dead time.

Choose Tolo if the beach comes first

Tolo makes more sense when the coastline is the priority and town texture matters less. It is practical, direct and easy for slower beach days.

  • Better if you want morning swims close to your room.
  • Useful for families or relaxed summer pacing.
  • Less compelling than Nafplio if you want most meals and walks to feel like part of the destination.

Keep inland days as day trips

For a first visit, Mycenae, Nemea and Epidaurus usually work better as selected day trips than as reasons to keep changing hotels. The region is easier to enjoy when the overnight base stays stable.

A good default choice

If you are unsure, stay in Nafplio and use Tolo as a beach outing. That gives you the strongest all-round base and keeps the beach option simple rather than committing the entire trip to one travel mood.
