Palamidi is the classic first-view stop in Nafplio. Its bastions sit high above town, making the fortress useful for history, photography and orientation.
Best time?
Go early morning or late afternoon. The light is softer, the steps are easier, and the gulf looks clearer from the upper walls.
Planning notes
- Bring water and shoes with grip.
- Driving up saves energy, but the stair route is the memorable approach.
- Pair it with the old town or Arvanitia promenade.
